Strengthening Ties: Moroccan and Zambian Parliamentary Engagement
On Monday in Rabat, Rachid Talbi El Alami, the President of the House of Representatives, welcomed Hearston Mabeta, President of the Youth, Sports, and Child Affairs Commission of the National Assembly of Zambia. Mabeta is leading a significant parliamentary delegation during a working visit to Morocco.
During their meeting, Mr. Talbi El Alami outlined the key aspects of Morocco’s parliamentary experience, highlighting the noteworthy evolution of female representation within the Parliament. He emphasized the increasing role of Moroccan women in elected offices and positions of responsibility, reflecting the significant advances made by the Kingdom towards gender parity in line with the 2011 Constitution.
The Chamber President also presented Morocco’s major developmental initiatives, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, while stressing the royal strategy aimed at African development.
Mr. Mabeta, for his part, praised the quality of bilateral relations between Morocco and Zambia. He mentioned that the purpose of this visit is to draw inspiration from Morocco’s experiences in youth affairs, sports, and child protection, as well as to deepen parliamentary cooperation.
He also expressed admiration for the progress made by Morocco in the sports sector, particularly in football, citing the historic qualification of the Moroccan national team for the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as a notable example.
The meeting, which was also attended by Eliphas Chinyonga, Zambia’s ambassador to Rabat, allowed both parties to discuss ways to strengthen parliamentary relations between their respective institutions. The discussions also focused on key issues related to youth, including education, employment, social protection, and digital transformation.
The Zambian delegation included several deputies, such as Jean Ng’andwe Chisenga, George Kangwa Chisanga, Allen Banda, Ackleo Aaron Banda, Emelda Munashabantu, Alex Katakwe, Sipho Hlazo, and Justin Kapema.
