Tesla Impresses in Study on Most Durable Cars: Toyota and Lexus Still Hold Dominance

A new North American study dedicated to vehicle longevity once again highlights the dominance of Japanese manufacturers. Toyota takes the lead by a significant margin, followed closely by its premium subsidiary Lexus, thanks to the durability of several models capable of surpassing 400,000 kilometers.
According to this survey, a Toyota has an approximately 17.8% chance of reaching this milestone, a figure well above the market average.
Honda and American Brands Perform Well
Following Toyota and Lexus, Honda rounds out the podium with a solid performance, notably driven by the Civic and the CR-V.
American brands like Acura and GMC also rank among the top, showcasing the durability of certain models in the North American market, particularly SUVs and pickups designed for very long distances.
Tesla Climbs to 6th Place
The real surprise in this ranking comes from Tesla, which secures the 6th position.
This outcome is primarily attributed to the longevity of the Model S, with some units having exceeded remarkable mileage figures. This performance helps mitigate concerns regarding the lifespan of electric vehicle batteries.
A Study to View with Caution
However, experts caution that this study does not account for long-term maintenance costs. Reaching very high mileage may require expensive repairs, particularly battery replacements for electric vehicles or engine replacements for traditional ones.
Thus, while mechanical durability is an important criterion, the economic aspect remains essential for evaluating the true longevity of a vehicle.
