The first beach in Morocco to use artificial intelligence for environmental protection.

Sustainable Eco-Village "Sayfok 2026" Leverages AI for Environmental Awareness

The sustainable eco-village "Sayfok 2026," established in Safi, has chosen artificial intelligence as one of its primary tools for raising awareness about the risks associated with plastic pollution on beaches and in marine environments. This initiative aims to connect environmental challenges with children and youth through the language of technology and innovation.

This program is part of the national campaign "Clean Beaches," which follows the "Plastic-Free Ocean" initiative. The "Sayfok" village leverages modern technologies to transform environmental awareness from traditional messages to an interactive experience, enabling visitors to better understand the impact of plastic waste on the sea and coastline. It also helps identify behaviors that can contribute to reducing this phenomenon.

AI plays a central role in this edition’s program, offering educational and interactive experiences that allow children and youth to explore the recycling universe and comprehend the journey of plastic waste—from its arrival on the beach to its potential impacts on marine life. These experiences aim to present environmental information in a straightforward and accessible manner, aligned with the interests of a new generation that is particularly connected to digital media and new technologies.

In the "Recycling Geniuses" space, AI merges with virtual reality and educational challenges, creating a pathway that turns environmental learning into a fun and interactive experience. Participants are made aware of the importance of waste sorting, the reuse of materials, and the reduction of unnecessary plastic usage, all while highlighting the direct link between individual behaviors and beach cleanliness.

This approach seeks to answer a simple question: How can we help a child or young person understand that a single plastic waste item left on the beach is not just trash, but part of an environmental problem whose consequences extend to the sea, marine organisms, and coastal quality?

Through the use of digital and interactive tools, "Sayfok" aims to provide a concrete response by making visitors active participants in the experience rather than mere recipients of information. Thus, artificial intelligence is not presented as an end in itself, but as a modern tool designed to enhance awareness, promote behavioral change, and nurture a more sustainable environmental culture.

In addition to artificial intelligence, the eco-village features the "Recycl’Art" space, where children can observe microplastics through a microscope, participate in waste collection and sorting, and reuse recycled materials in creative workshops. The village also offers experiences focusing on Safi’s history and heritage through digital archives, as well as "Beach Radio," sports and recreational activities, and various awareness messages.

This initiative holds particular importance in Safi, where a significant aspect of the city’s identity and socio-economic activity is closely tied to the sea. Protecting the coastline thus goes beyond simply cleaning the beaches; it involves changing behaviors and fostering a collective awareness of the risks associated with plastic pollution, especially among younger generations.

In this context, the "Sayfok" initiative is part of a sustainable partnership supporting environmental and social initiatives on Safi’s beach. Ciments du Maroc continues to support this endeavor, alongside its contributions to similar initiatives on the beaches of Lalla Fatna and Kram Daif, as part of its commitment to environmental and social responsibility.

Through its presence, Ciments du Maroc reaffirms its commitment to backing initiatives that integrate environmental protection, innovation, and awareness, contributing to sustainable local development and reinforcing its role as a responsible corporate citizen involved in societal and environmental concerns.

With "Sayfok 2026," environmental awareness is thus reimagined, using artificial intelligence as a bridge between technology and consciousness, knowledge and behavior. The aim is to convey a clear message to beach visitors: protecting the ocean starts at the beach, combating plastic begins with behavioral change, and digital tools can effectively build a more conscious and responsible generation toward the environment.
