Trade between Morocco and Kazakhstan soars by 68%, exceeding $460 million.
Economic relations between Morocco and the Republic of Kazakhstan are experiencing a significant acceleration. The volume of trade between the two countries has risen by 68%, reaching approximately $460 million by the end of last year, according to data from the Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This growth reflects the ongoing strengthening of economic ties between Rabat and Astana, driven by a diversification of investment opportunities and an expansion of areas for cooperation.
A Major Economic Meeting in Casablanca
These figures were revealed during a meeting held in Casablanca, which brought together ambassadors from countries in the Asia-Pacific region and the president of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), in the presence of the Kazakh ambassador to Morocco and several diplomatic representatives accredited in Rabat.
Representatives from various countries participated in this meeting, including Azerbaijan, Australia, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, focusing on enhancing economic partnerships with Morocco.
Significant Cooperation Potential with the Asia-Pacific Region
The discussions highlighted the strong potential for cooperation between Morocco and countries in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as the opportunities available to boost trade and encourage reciprocal investments.
Morocco was presented as a strategic platform linking Africa to Europe, increasing its appeal to Asian economic partners.
Notable Progress in Bilateral Relations
The Kazakh ambassador emphasized that relations between Rabat and Astana have evolved significantly since the opening of the Kazakh embassy in Morocco in 2021.
During this period, trade exchanges increased by 68%, exceeding $460 million by the end of the past year, illustrating a consistent intensification of economic relations between the two countries.
The Impact of Visa Facilitation
The Kazakh diplomat also highlighted the positive effects of the visa exemption agreement between the two countries, which has facilitated travel for businesspeople and tourists, thereby stimulating economic and human exchanges.
Towards Strengthening Economic Partnerships
Lastly, attention was drawn to the upcoming establishment of the Kazakh-Moroccan Business Council, with its first session planned for July in Casablanca, featuring high-level economic delegations.
This initiative is expected to strengthen direct contacts between the economic actors of both countries and pave the way for new strategic partnerships.
