Traffic Accidents in Urban Areas: A Recent Report

According to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), twenty-seven people lost their lives, and 3,105 others were injured, 116 of them seriously, in 2,243 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas between April 27 and May 3.

These accidents are primarily attributed to driver negligence, failure to yield, speeding, pedestrian inattention, disregard for safe following distances, loss of vehicle control, changing direction without signaling, unauthorized lane changes, ignoring stop signs, driving in prohibited directions, traveling in the left lane, disobeying red lights, driving under the influence, and improper overtaking, as stated in a DGSN press release.

Regarding enforcement and traffic control operations, the same source reports that security services issued 50,184 citations, filed 8,006 reports with the public prosecutor’s office, and collected 42,178 contraventions.

The total amount collected from these fines reached 9,430,150 dirhams. The press release also mentioned the impoundment of 5,169 vehicles, the seizure of 8,006 documents, and the removal of 509 vehicles from circulation.
