Morocco Reaffirms Digital Ambitions Amidst UN Open Source Week
During the UN Open Source Week 2026, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Morocco reinforced its ambition to become a key player in the digital landscape by presenting its vision for artificial intelligence, digital sovereignty, and digital transformation.
Morocco Advocates for Its Digital Vision at the UN
At the UN Open Source Week 2026, Morocco unveiled its strategy concerning artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and technological governance.
Speaking at this international gathering, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, the Delegate Minister to the Head of Government in charge of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, showcased Morocco’s approach based on a “third digital way.” This vision seeks to balance openness to global technological innovations with a commitment to preserving the country’s digital sovereignty and independence in technological choices.
Digital Morocco 2030 and AI Made in Morocco at the Forefront of Strategy
The minister highlighted the main pillars of the Digital Morocco 2030 strategy and the AI Made in Morocco roadmap, which aim to strengthen the national artificial intelligence ecosystem.
Key projects include the development of AI models tailored to Arabic, Darija, and Amazigh languages, the establishment of a national network of JAZARI institutes, and a strategic partnership with Mistral AI to accelerate technological innovation in Morocco.
National Cloud, Data Centers, and Talent Development
The national strategy also includes enhancing the sovereign cloud, developing data centers, and strengthening the digital infrastructures essential for the growth of the digital economy.
The Kingdom has set a goal of training 100,000 digital talents annually by 2030 to meet the increasing demands of sectors related to artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, software development, and emerging technologies.
Morocco Strengthens Its Role in International Digital Governance
On the sidelines of the UN Open Source Week 2026, Morocco co-chaired several international initiatives dedicated to digital governance, open source software, and the financing of public digital infrastructures.
Through this participation, the Kingdom reaffirms its commitment to actively contribute to building an inclusive digital ecosystem and positioning Africa and Arab countries as essential players in technological innovation and artificial intelligence.
