Water and Electricity: SRM RSK Calls for Responsible Consumption During the Summer Period.

During the peak summer heat, the Regional Multiservice Company of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (SRM-RSK) aims to support all of its clients—urban households, rural populations, well users, and agricultural irrigation stakeholders—confronting the seasonal rise in water and electricity consumption that occurs each summer. The goal is to transparently explain billing mechanisms and promote responsible behaviors to preserve both resources and household budgets.

A Rise in Bills Linked to Consumption Volumes, Not Tariffs

The SRM-RSK emphasizes a crucial reality: the rates for water and electricity are regulated by the state. Billing is rigorously determined according to the rate schedule set forth by the ministerial decree published in 2014, in Official Bulletin No. 6275 Bis, which has remained unchanged to this day. Consequently, changes in the amount of a bill are solely explained by the increase in consumption volumes.

In summer, user habits often change: increased use of air conditioning and ventilation, more frequent showers, regular watering, and heightened agricultural activities. This consumption spike can also lead to a shift into a higher tariff bracket.

Billing is based on a tiered consumption system. When the volume consumed surpasses certain thresholds, it is accounted for at the higher tier, in accordance with the applicable rate. Thus, higher consumption can result in an increased total amount on the bill.

This mechanism explains why even a moderate increase in consumption can lead to a noticeable change in the bill.

Consumption Trends in the RSK Region

The summer peak is a measurable phenomenon.

– Nationally, there is generally a 20% to 40% increase in water consumption and a 30% to 60% rise in electricity usage.

– Regionally, data specific to the SRM-RSK network confirms this trend:

  • Water volumes distributed by SRM-RSK in July and August 2025, the first summer period covered since the company began operating, are on average nearly 25% higher than those recorded in February and March 2026.
  • The overall demand for electricity in July and August is on average nearly 39% higher than observed in February and March, reflecting increased needs during the summer.

Eco-Friendly Actions: Simple Reflexes to Preserve Your Budget and Resources

To limit the impact of these consumption peaks on bills and preserve our shared resources, SRM-RSK encourages everyone to adopt simple daily practices. Here’s an indicative list:

  • Avoid Energy Waste: Always turn off lights when leaving a room, unplug chargers and unused devices, and minimize standby mode.
  • Opt for Energy-Efficient Appliances and Lighting, and operate them at full capacity.
  • Responsible Air Conditioning: Set the air conditioning to a recommended temperature of 26 °C and optimize the use of ventilation.
  • Leak Management: Immediately report any observed water leak before the meter to SRM-RSK and quickly repair any leak located after the meter.
  • Smart Watering: Water green spaces and gardens early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid significant water loss due to evaporation.

Managing energy and water during summer is a collective responsibility. By adopting simple daily actions, everyone contributes to preserving water resources, reducing energy demand during peak periods, and better controlling the amount of their bill.

SRM-RSK remains committed to supporting its users to ensure continuous and quality service throughout the year.
