4 Dead in Heavy Preliminary Assessment Following Building Collapse in Fez

Local authorities in the Fez prefecture reported a tragic incident on Thursday morning, with four confirmed fatalities and six others injured to varying degrees following the collapse of a fully occupied residential building.
The building, which comprised a basement and four floors, was located in the Al Jarandi Ain Nokbi neighborhood, part of the Jnan El Ward district in Fez.
Rescue operations mobilized and ongoing
As soon as the tragedy was announced, local and security authorities, supported by Civil Protection teams and their logistical resources, swiftly arrived at the scene to initiate search, rescue, and recovery operations.
Key measures taken on site:
- Securing the perimeter: A large security cordon was established around the collapsed building to facilitate the intervention of rescue teams.
- Preventive evacuation: Residents of neighboring buildings were evacuated as a precautionary measure to ensure their safety against any risk of further collapse.
- Searching for missing individuals: Ongoing search and excavation efforts are being conducted to locate any potential individuals still trapped under the rubble.
Care for the injured and initiation of an investigation
The six injured individuals were urgently transported to the Hassan II University Hospital Center in Fez to receive necessary medical attention.
Additionally, a judicial investigation has been launched under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy and establish its true causes.
