Walid Regragui: Morocco Offers Dual-National Players a Project of Heart and Commitment

Morocco’s Sincere Approach to Dual-National Players, Says National Coach Walid Regragui
"Morocco adopts a sincere approach towards dual-national players by inviting them to join a national project driven by passion and conviction," asserted national team coach Walid Regragui.
“Our goal is to engage with players, present our vision, and instill a love for the homeland, fully respecting their decisions,” the coach of the national A team stated in an interview with the Spanish sports daily, AS.
Regragui expressed a deep understanding of the dilemma faced by young players who have grown up in other countries, noting that “those with dual cultures are well aware that this choice is complex and deserves respect, regardless of the outcome.”
The national coach took this opportunity to commend the choices of players such as Brahim Diaz, Bilal El Khannous, and Achraf Hakimi, who have opted for Morocco and have contributed to the team’s prominence and the Kingdom’s sporting ambitions.
He emphasized that the strategy for identifying young talent in Europe is built on anticipation and close engagement, adding that “the essential criterion is not merely their origin, but their genuine commitment to our national project.”
Regragui also highlighted the current momentum in Moroccan football and the significant progress achieved, specifically mentioning the development of international-level infrastructures, the organization of the 2030 World Cup, and Morocco’s ranking among the world’s top national teams.
Regarding the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for the end of the year, Walid Regragui indicated that securing the continental title has become a top priority.
“Morocco is a great football nation, and our national team unites the entire nation. It is unacceptable for us to have only one Africa Cup. Our goal is continental glory,” he affirmed.
