Accountants Facing a Crucial Turning Point

Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the 10th edition of the Congress of the Order of Chartered Accountants (OEC) took place on November 13 and 14, 2025 in Rabat, gathering over 500 participants, including ministers, leaders, and international experts.

With the theme “Sustainability, AI, Talent: The Winning Strategy,” this event highlighted the major transformations reshaping the role of the accountant and the demands of Morocco’s economic framework.

The Accountant of Tomorrow: Architect of Trust

Faïçal Mekouar, president of the OEC, emphasized that artificial intelligence (AI) is disrupting value chains and competitiveness. He stressed the importance of translating the orientations of the New Development Model (NMD) into concrete actions.

According to him, the accountant is becoming an “architect of trust,” tasked with:

  • Ensuring the reliability of non-financial data

  • Integrating ESG criteria into corporate strategies

  • Supporting ecological and digital transitions

AI and Digital Infrastructure Serving the Economy

The congress also marked the announcement of the launch of the first phase of the national 5G network, a strategic lever for digital inclusion and regional competitiveness.

Morocco is also accelerating the development of sovereign data centers, such as the 500 MW facility in Dakhla, powered 100% by renewable energy, symbolizing the convergence of digitalization and sustainability.

Impacts on Skills and Employment

Chakib Benmoussa detailed how AI is redefining professions, altering skills, and necessitating a deep reorganization of tasks. The High Commission for Planning is working to:

  • Strengthen national databases

  • Incorporate new indicators

  • Map sectoral evolutions linked to digital and ecological transitions

Sustainable Finance and Talent Development

Brahim Benjelloun Touimi emphasized the role of the financial markets in addressing the growing needs for green, digital, and industrial energy. Financial and non-financial transparency becomes essential for:

  • Building trust

  • Attracting investments

  • Training talents in sustainable finance, blockchain, DeFi, and data analytics

This initiative aims to position Morocco as a regional and Mediterranean hub for financial innovation, while supporting the country’s economic and technological transformations.
