Fires in Spain: France Sends Aircraft to Support firefighting Efforts

On Thursday, France announced the dispatch of two Canadair planes and a coordination aircraft to Spain in response to a request for assistance made under the European Civil Protection Mechanism, as the country grapples with significant wildfires.
French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau confirmed the mobilization on his X account, stating that “Spain, affected by numerous and violent wildfires, has called for European solidarity.” He added that “starting this morning, two Canadairs and a coordination aircraft will take off from the Nîmes civil security base to assist the Spanish authorities.”
This assistance comes amid a series of devastating wildfires in Spain, intensified by an extreme heatwave that has been impacting the Mediterranean basin severely for several days.
