The Civil Guard dismantles a trafficking network using drones.

An Exemplary Moroccan-Spanish Security Cooperation

On Wednesday, the Spanish Civil Guard announced the dismantling of a criminal network specializing in hashish trafficking via drones, a significant operation made possible through close collaboration with the Royal Gendarmerie. This action is part of the ongoing enhancement of security cooperation between the two countries.

A Technological Network Capable of Transporting 200 kg Each Night

According to the official statement, the network operated using a sophisticated system of drones capable of transporting up to 200 kilograms of hashish in a single night. These devices, designed and assembled by network members, conducted regular cross-border flights from isolated areas, taking advantage of their autonomy and stealth.

Seized Drones and Multiple Arrests

The operation was triggered after the detection of several unidentified flights. It resulted in the seizure of eight ready-to-use drones and ten others in the assembly stage, as well as the arrest of nine individuals involved in this criminal activity.

The drones predominantly took off from the Andalusian locality of Alcalá de los Gazules, flying across the Strait of Gibraltar and returning to deliver their cargo in areas like Vejer de la Frontera or Tarifa, where it was subsequently collected by accomplices.

Simultaneous Flights Organized to Maximize Profits

Investigations carried out by authorities revealed that on nights with low winds, the network could launch up to ten drones simultaneously. This strategy allowed for the rapid introduction of large quantities of narcotics into Spanish territory while minimizing the risks of interception.
