SEOIL Corporation Opens Its First African Plant in Settat with a Capacity of 6 Billion Straws per Year

SEOIL Corporation, the South Korean conglomerate, inaugurated its first production facility in Africa on Thursday. Located within the LOGINTEK industrial and logistics zone in Settat Province, this factory is the group’s ninth industrial site worldwide and represents a significant milestone in its international expansion.
Spanning an area of 24,790 m², SEOIL Morocco Corporation boasts an annual production capacity of six billion straws, split evenly between three billion made from paper and three billion crafted from polypropylene and biodegradable materials. Close to 95% of the production is earmarked for export.
During the inauguration ceremony, the group’s CEO, Kim Kyung Tae, emphasized SEOIL’s confidence in Moroccan expertise, the country’s industrial potential, and its strategic geographical position. He also highlighted that this establishment will facilitate knowledge transfer and the training of local skills.
On his part, the Director General of Industry at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Youssef Fadil, noted that this project reaffirms Morocco’s industrial platform attractiveness. It is expected to generate more than 270 direct jobs, along with several hundred indirect employment opportunities.
Salmane Belayachi, General Director of the Casablanca-Settat Regional Investment Center (CRI), reminded attendees that the project was realized in less than two years following initial discussions with the investor. Local production will also enable Moroccan companies to source directly from the Settat factory.
The LOGINTEK platform is also continuing its development. According to Samir Filali Chahad, CEO of ZINAFRIK Développement, the first phase of the zone currently has a commercialization rate of 92%, while a second phase is expected to be launched soon to accommodate new industrial units.
From an environmental standpoint, the factory incorporates water recycling systems and equipment aimed at minimizing energy consumption. There are also plans for the installation of photovoltaic panels.
Founded in 1979 in South Korea, SEOIL Corporation supplies over 50 billion straws annually to customers in more than 110 countries. Its establishment in Settat thus enhances industrial exchanges between Morocco and South Korea, while bolstering the positioning of the Casablanca-Settat region as a key industrial and logistical hub.
