Floods in Safi: 7 Dead and 20 Injured, According to Initial Report

The province of Safi was hit by exceptionally intense thunderstorms on Sunday, December 14, leading to devastating flash floods in just one hour. According to preliminary reports, seven people have died, while twenty others have been rescued and are currently receiving treatment at Mohammed V Hospital in Safi.

Local authorities in Safi have indicated that the city has suffered significant material damage:

Approximately 70 homes and businesses were flooded, particularly on Bir Anzaran Street and Abu Dahab Square.

Ten vehicles were swept away by the floods.

Provincial road 2300, which connects Safi to the center of the community of Ahrare, has been damaged, resulting in the suspension of traffic on several routes within the city.

In response to this exceptional situation, local authorities have mobilized all available logistical and human resources to assist affected populations, secure impacted areas, and restore infrastructure.

Efforts continue to locate any missing persons and to fully restore traffic as well as public service networks within the province.
