Massive Collision Closes Highway in the U.S. State of Michigan

The state of Michigan was the scene of a serious traffic accident on Monday morning, involving more than a hundred cars and trucks, which resulted in the closure of a major highway as a violent snowstorm hit the region.
Injuries but No Fatalities
The Michigan State Police reported several injuries of varying degrees, but thankfully no fatalities. Emergency response teams quickly arrived on the scene to assist those affected.
Dozens of Trucks Skid Out of Control
According to authorities, the accident took place on Interstate I-196, where numerous heavy trucks and light vehicles skidded on the snowy road before colliding with one another. The crash reportedly involved up to 40 big rigs.
Extended Closure and Traffic Standstill
Due to the extent of the accident, the usually busy highway remained closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the wrecked vehicles and secure the area for safe passage.
Call for Caution Amidst Hazardous Weather Conditions
In light of this situation, authorities urged drivers to exercise extreme caution and avoid any excessive speeds, as the weather conditions have been described as “dangerous,” with heavy snowfall and temperatures potentially dropping to -22 degrees Celsius.
Significant Snow Accumulation and Weather Warnings
The National Weather Service has predicted an additional accumulation of about 10 centimeters of snow overnight, bringing totals to nearly 35.5 centimeters in certain areas of southwestern and central Michigan.
Weather services also advised residents to avoid traveling to affected areas until conditions improve.
