Suspension of maritime connections between Tarifa and Tangier due to bad weather.

The port authorities of the Cádiz Bay announced on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the suspension of all maritime crossings between the Spanish port of Tarifa (Cádiz) and the port of Tangier starting at 10:00 AM, due to adverse weather conditions in the Strait of Gibraltar, characterized by heavy rain and strong winds.
Impact on Ferry Schedule
All crossings scheduled after 10:00 AM have been canceled, with only the 9:00 AM crossing running as planned. In total, nine crossings operated by the companies “Balearia” and “AML” have been suspended until 9:00 PM, effectively rendering the Tarifa–Tangier route out of service for the day.
Alternative Crossings and Recommendations for Passengers
On the other hand, crossings between the port of Cádiz Bay and Tangier-Med remain operational. Passengers are advised to remain careful and to follow official information from port authorities in case of any potential disruptions.
Current Weather Warning
The Spanish meteorological agency has maintained a yellow alert regarding precipitation in the region. Rainfall is expected to reach 15 liters per square meter within one hour, with a total accumulation of 40 liters over 12 hours. This alert will remain in effect from 3:00 PM to midnight.
