Weather Alert: Severe Conditions in Several Provinces

Severe Thunderstorms and Hail Risk

The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has announced the onset of a disturbed weather episode characterized by heavy, sometimes stormy rain with a risk of hail, from Saturday to Monday, in several provinces across the Kingdom.

Orange Alert in the Northern Regions

According to an orange vigilance alert, heavy rainfall between 50 and 80 mm is expected from Sunday at 3:00 AM until Monday at 3:00 PM in the provinces of Tanger-Asilah, M’Diq-Fnideq, Chefchaouen, Fahs-Anjra, Ouezzane, Tétouan, and Larache.

Moderate Rainfall in the Central and North-Eastern Regions

The same weather phenomenon is forecasted from Saturday at 12:00 PM until Sunday at 3:00 AM in the provinces of Azilal and Béni Mellal, with accumulations of 30 to 40 mm expected. Precipitation of 20 to 30 mm is also anticipated in Settat, Khouribga, Benslimane, Khemisset, Taza, Taounate, Sefrou, and Moulay Yacoub.

Heavy Snowfall in Mountainous Areas

Snowfall ranging from 20 to 50 cm is expected from Saturday at 12:00 PM to Sunday at 12:00 PM in several provinces, including Al Haouz, Azilal, Béni Mellal, Ifrane, Khénifra, Midelt, Guercif, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Sefrou, Taza, and Boulemane. Accumulations of 10 to 20 cm are also anticipated in Taroudant, Chefchaouen, Chichaoua, Taourirt, Al Hoceima, and Figuig.

Strong Wind Gusts Up to 85 km/h

The DGM also predicts strong wind gusts reaching 75 to 85 km/h on Saturday from noon until 11:00 PM in several provinces, including Casablanca, Rabat, Salé, Benslimane, Béni Mellal, Ouarzazate, Midelt, Guelmim, Tiznit, and Kénitra. This weather phenomenon will continue on Sunday in the Oriental region, particularly in Nador, Taourirt, Guercif, and Jerada.

Very Cold Weather in Several Regions

Lastly, cold conditions with minimum temperatures ranging from -8 to -3 °C are expected between Saturday and Sunday in various provinces of the Atlas and interior regions, including Midelt, Ifrane, Azilal, Béni Mellal, Khénifra, Tinghir, and Chichaoua.
