Severe Weather Alert: Rain, Thunderstorms, and Snow on the Horizon

The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has announced that from Sunday to Wednesday, several provinces across the Kingdom can expect heavy rainfall, thunderstorm activity with a risk of hail, snowfall above 1,600 meters, strong gusts of wind, and chilly temperatures.

According to the DGM’s orange alert bulletin, heavy rains paired with thunderstorms and the potential for hail (amounting to 60-80 mm) are anticipated from Sunday at 10:00 AM until Monday at 4:00 PM in the provinces of Tanger-Asilah, M’Diq-Fnideq, Chefchaouen, Fahs-Anjra, Ouezzane, Tétouan, and Larache.

Similar conditions, with expected rainfall between 30 to 60 mm, are also forecasted for Taounate and Al Hoceima during the same timeframe.

Additionally, snowfall beginning at 1,600 meters is expected in Midelt, Guercif, Sefrou, Taza, Boulemane, Ifrane, and Al Hoceima, with accumulations ranging from 10 to 20 cm from Sunday at 10:00 AM until Monday at 9:00 AM.

Strong winds characterized by gusts between 75 to 90 km/h are also projected to affect the provinces of Figuig, Taourirt, Guercif, Jerada, Taza, Al Hoceima, and Chefchaouen on Sunday between 10:00 AM and 10:00 PM.

From Tuesday at 2:00 AM until Wednesday at 6:00 AM, the same weather phenomena will extend to the provinces of Tanger-Assilah, Ouezzane, Fahs-Anjra, Larache, Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, M’Diq-Fnideq, Tétouan, Guercif, Figuig, Driouch, Sefrou, Moulay Yacoub, Taounate, Taza, Meknès, El Hajeb, Ifrane, Fès, Boulemane, Kénitra, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Rabat, Salé, Skhirate-Témara, Khémisset, Benslimane, Berrechid, Casablanca, Médiouna, Mohammédia, Nouaceur, El Jadida, and Midelt.

Moreover, cold temperatures ranging from -08 to -03 °C are expected on Sunday in the provinces of Midelt, Boulemane, Taza, Guercif, Sefrou, Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Tinghir, Al Haouz, Azilal, Béni Mellal, Ifrane, Khénifra, and Chichaoua.
