Bad Weather in Spain: New Delays for Ferry Crossings Between Tarifa and Tangier

Maritime Crossings Between Tarifa and Tangier Delayed Due to Adverse Weather Conditions
On Monday, authorities at the Port of Algeciras announced yet another postponement of maritime crossings between Tarifa and Tangier, attributed to deteriorating weather conditions in the Strait of Gibraltar, which are affecting navigation in the region.
Continued Restrictions and Partial Truck Traffic
At the same time, the port continues to impose restrictions on truck entries destined for the Tangier-Med port while allowing access to container terminals. Despite challenging navigation conditions, some crossings to North Africa remain partially operational.
An Exceptionally Challenging Situation
The president of the port authority, Gerardo Landaluce, described the current situation as “extremely exceptional,” highlighting the unusual persistence of adverse weather disruptions that are impacting port activities within the strait.
From the partial resumption of maritime operations last Thursday until Sunday, nearly 3,000 trucks boarded ships heading to Tangier, with a similar number returning in the opposite direction. Additionally, around 2,000 units accessed the container terminals, according to official data.
The Need for Coordination and Future Logistical Solutions
The port authority chief indicated that managing traffic flow relies on close coordination among various stakeholders. He emphasized the necessity of exploring complementary logistical solutions to better handle this type of transport in the future, particularly during periods of inclement weather.
