A magnitude 4 earthquake shakes New Delhi, causing no major damage reported.

A magnitude 4 earthquake struck New Delhi, the capital of India, on Monday morning, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The epicenter of the quake, which occurred at 5:36 AM local time (00:06 GMT), was located at a latitude of 28.59 degrees and a longitude of 77.16 degrees, at a depth of just 5 kilometers.
While no significant damage has been reported immediately, many frightened residents evacuated their buildings after feeling the tremors.
“Tremors were felt in Delhi and surrounding areas. I urge everyone to remain calm and follow safety protocols, while staying alert for possible aftershocks,” said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his X account. “Authorities are closely monitoring the situation,” he added.
Earthquakes are common in northern India, a region where the Indian tectonic plate meets the Eurasian plate.
