The match between Rayo Vallecano and Real Oviedo postponed due to poor pitch conditions.

The Spanish Football League (LaLiga) announced on Saturday the postponement of the match between Rayo Vallecano and Real Oviedo, which was scheduled as part of the 23rd matchday of the Spanish Championship, due to the poor condition of the pitch, raising concerns about the physical safety of the players.

A Decision Made to Ensure Player Safety

In an official statement, LaLiga explained that this decision was made following an inspection of the Vallecas stadium pitch, which did not currently meet the minimum safety conditions required for the match to proceed smoothly.
The kickoff was originally scheduled for 1:00 PM (GMT).

Insufficient Efforts Despite Ongoing Work

The Rayo Vallecano club had undertaken significant work throughout the week, including the complete replacement of the grass, in hopes of ensuring the match could go ahead as planned. However, adverse weather conditions and ongoing heavy rainfall prevented the pitch from reaching an optimal level of preparation.

Close Monitoring by LaLiga

LaLiga also stated that they had closely monitored maintenance operations, in constant coordination with the club’s management, and had exhausted all possible options to maintain the match on the originally scheduled date.
