Urban Traffic Accidents: 24 Dead and Over 2,700 Injured in One Week

Traffic Accidents Claim Lives and Cause Injuries in Urban Areas

According to a report from the General Directorate of National Security, twenty-four people lost their lives and another 2,748 were injured, including 85 seriously, in 2,025 traffic accidents recorded in urban areas during the week of March 9 to March 15.

The General Directorate of National Security outlined that the primary causes of these accidents, in order of importance, are driver inattention, failure to yield, pedestrian inattention, speeding, and not maintaining a safe following distance.

Additional factors contributing to accidents include loss of vehicle control, changing direction without signaling, illegal maneuvers, disobeying stop signs, driving on the left side of the road, ignoring red lights, driving in the wrong direction, and dangerous overtaking.

In terms of traffic enforcement and regulation, security services reported 49,649 violations. A total of 7,735 violation reports were sent to the public prosecutor, while 41,914 fines were settled.

The total amount collected from fines reached 8,916,650 dirhams. Additionally, 5,540 vehicles were impounded, 7,735 documents were confiscated, and 607 vehicles were immobilized.
