FAO: Global Food Prices Continue to Rise in March 2026

FAO Reports Surge in Global Food Prices
On Friday, April 3, 2026, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations announced that global food prices have continued to climb in March, reaching their highest level since December 2025. This marks the second consecutive month of price increases.
FAO Food Price Index Trends
The FAO’s average food price index, which tracks the movement of a basket of food products traded worldwide, stood at 128.5 points in March, reflecting a 2.4% increase from the adjusted level in February 2026.
Global Grain Production Forecasts
In a separate report, the FAO made a slight upward revision to its forecasts for global grain production in 2025, which is expected to reach a record 3.036 billion tons, marking an increase of 5.8% year-on-year.
This upward trend in food prices underscores the sensitivity of global markets to fluctuations in supply and demand, as well as to geopolitical events.
