Fez: Nearly 50 Participants in the 4th Edition of the Open Para-Karate Kata Tournament

L’event was organized by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Persons with Disabilities – Fès Center, in collaboration with the Royal Moroccan Federation of Karate and Associated Disciplines, as well as the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fès. The competitions took place at the Euro-Mediterranean Sports Center affiliated with the university.
Growing National Participation
This edition saw athletes from several regions of the Kingdom taking part, with the inclusion of new cities, notably Tangier. This expansion reflects the gradual outreach of para-karate practice across the nation.
The organizers highlighted the increasing dynamics of this discipline, fueled by awareness-raising efforts and guidance, as well as the growing interest among participants.
Notable Improvement in Technical Performance
Participants showcased kata demonstrations—codified technical sequences—creating an atmosphere that was both competitive and friendly, accompanied by the applause of the audience.
The technical level of the athletes showed significant improvement, with several achieving higher ranks, showcasing their commitment and continuous development.
Competition Rankings
The competition awarded 11 participants first place, another 11 secured second place, while 28 participants ranked third. The entire event unfolded in a spirit of discipline and fair play.
Sport as a Catalyst for Social Inclusion
In a statement to MAP, the director of the Fès Center of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Persons with Disabilities, Sanaâ El Ouazzani, noted that this annual occasion allows participants to showcase their skills and progress in the discipline.
She also emphasized the positive impact of karate on the development of physical and psychological abilities, as well as the enhancement of self-confidence.
On her part, Bouchra El Akhal, vice-president of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Karate and Associated Disciplines, labeled the event a true “sporting celebration,” emphasizing the importance of including persons with disabilities.
Zineb El Medghari, director of cultural and sports affairs at the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fès, reminded us that this initiative aligns with the university’s efforts to strengthen social integration and open up to its community.
A Thriving National Movement
Finally, the organizers highlighted the geographical expansion of participation and the rise of para-karate in Morocco, reflecting the desire to democratize access to adapted sports and promote the values of inclusion, discipline, and self-improvement.
