FC Barcelona Files Complaint with UEFA Following Controversial Referee Decision

FC Barcelona Appeals to UEFA Following Controversial Arbitarily Decision in Champions League Quarter-Final
FC Barcelona has officially approached UEFA following a controversial refereeing decision during their home match against Atlético Madrid, which ended in a 0-2 defeat in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.
In a statement, the Catalan club contends that certain decisions made during the match were not in accordance with existing rules, and they directly influenced both the flow of the game and the final result.
A Disputed Incident at the Heart of the Debate
The incident in question occurred in the 55th minute, arising from what seemed to be a routine play. A Madrid defender handled the ball in his own penalty area after a pass from his goalkeeper. Despite protests from the Barça players, the referee did not call a foul, and the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) did not intervene.
The Anger of the Barcelona Staff
After the match, Barça’s coach, Hansi Flick, expressed his confusion. He stated that the action should have been penalized, even suggesting that it could have warranted a red card and a penalty, which might have altered the outcome of the match.
A Call for Investigation and Transparency
In its appeal, FC Barcelona is demanding an official investigation, as well as access to recordings of the exchanges between the referees and the VAR. The club is also seeking formal acknowledgment of any mistakes made and the implementation of adequate measures to prevent similar situations in the future.
