The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Amine Tehraoui, signed three agreements on Monday, May 18, in Geneva, aimed at enhancing international health cooperation. These signings took place during the 79th World Health Assembly.
The agreements were made with his counterparts from Indonesia, Budi Gunadi Sadikin; Libya, Dr. Mohammed Ali Al-Ghouj; and Latvia, Hosam Abu Meri.
Partnerships to Strengthen Health Systems
These protocols are part of Morocco’s strategy to enhance its international cooperation in health through structured and sustainable partnerships.
They focus on several priority areas, including strengthening health systems, universal health coverage, human resource development, and the advancement of digital health and telemedicine.
The agreements also encompass medical research and innovation, as well as concerns regarding health, pharmaceutical, and vaccine sovereignty.
Bilaterals to Solidify Cooperation
On the sidelines of these signings, the Moroccan minister held several bilateral meetings with his counterparts. These discussions allowed for an examination of the ways to implement the agreements and to strengthen operational cooperation among partner countries.
The exchanges particularly emphasized the sharing of expertise, training, health system digitalization, and improving health governance.
Towards Effective Implementation of Commitments
The parties underscored the necessity of establishing technical coordination mechanisms and regular follow-ups to ensure that the commitments made are fulfilled.
The goal is to transform these agreements into concrete projects, particularly in the areas of capacity building, training, and health innovation.
Morocco Values Its Experience in Health Reform
These agreements also reflect Morocco’s intention to share its experience in health system reform, particularly in expanding social protection, modernizing healthcare services, and improving access to health services, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
The World Health Assembly as an International Framework
The 79th World Health Assembly is taking place in Geneva from May 18 to 23. It serves as an international platform for exchange among member states on major global health priorities, including universal health coverage, strengthening health systems, and reducing health service access inequalities.
