LGV Kénitra–Marrakech: A Historic Railway Project Enters an Accelerated Execution Phase
The construction of the Kénitra–Marrakech High-Speed Line (LGV) is rapidly gaining momentum. Just one year after its official launch, the project led by the National Office of Railways (ONCF) has already established itself as one of the largest infrastructure projects in Morocco, showing concrete advancements across all technical and operational components.
This strategic project is part of the national rail program initiated under royal guidance, with a total estimated budget of 96 billion dirhams.
A 430 km High-Speed Line at the Heart of Moroccan Rail Modernization
The future line will span approximately 430 kilometers, connecting Kénitra to Marrakech and extending the existing high-speed network further into the north of the Kingdom.
It aims to profoundly transform rail mobility in Morocco by enhancing connectivity between major cities and reducing travel times along this strategic corridor.
Rapid Progress in Civil Engineering Works
On the ground, the work is progressing at a steady pace. Land acquisition operations have been completed, allowing for the near-total clearance of the areas needed for construction.
Earthworks and structural works are also well underway, with nearly 20 million cubic meters of excavation and filling already completed.
Several major infrastructures are in the process of being built, including viaducts and covered trenches in strategic areas along the route.
An Industrial Logistics Network Already Mobilized
The project also relies on a significant logistics chain dedicated to railway equipment. Substantial quantities have already been supplied, including ballast, sleepers, rails, and track components.
This mobilization reflects the ramping up of construction activities and the preparedness for the phases of track laying and technical equipment installation.
Passenger Stations and Railway Systems in the Works
The passenger station component is also being structured. Architectural concepts have been finalized, and construction is scheduled in successive phases.
Simultaneously, signaling and safety systems are being prepared for their progressive deployment across the network.
An Economically and Industrially Impactful Project
Beyond infrastructure, the Kénitra–Marrakech LGV plays a crucial role in the national economic dynamics. The construction project involves around 150 companies, with a large majority being Moroccan firms.
This involvement of local stakeholders contributes to the development of national skills in the construction, engineering, and railway infrastructure sectors.
A Strategic Ambition for Tomorrow’s Mobility
This project aligns with a broader vision for modernizing the Moroccan railway network, aiming to bolster sustainable mobility, regional competitiveness, and the economic attractiveness of the Kingdom.
