Management Surpasses a Key Milestone in the Acquisition of Sound Energy Meridja Limited

Moroccan Mining Group Managem Pursues Strategic Expansion in Energy Sector
The Moroccan mining group Managem is continuing its strategic expansion within the energy sector. It has officially informed the Competition Council of its plan to gain exclusive control over Sound Energy Meridja Limited by acquiring 100% of its share capital and the associated voting rights.
This step marks the entry of the operation into the formal framework for assessing economic concentrations, initiating a regulatory consultation period during which interested parties can submit their observations until July 1, 2026.
An Operation Governed by Competition Regulation
In accordance with current procedures, this notification triggers a ten-day period for the competent authorities to review the proposal. This phase aims to ensure transparency in the operation and assess its impact on the relevant market.
Sound Energy Meridja Limited is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sound Energy plc, the parent company of the British group Sound Energy. It specializes in the exploration, evaluation, and development of natural gas resources.
A Strategy for Expansion into Natural Gas
Through this acquisition, Managem reaffirms its intention to diversify its activities beyond traditional mining sectors. The group aims to strengthen its positioning in energy resources, particularly natural gas, which is viewed as a strategic lever in the current context of energy transition.
This direction aligns with a broader strategy to expand its portfolio toward assets related to energy transition metals and strategic energy resources.
A Growing African Mining Player
Managem is an international mining group operating across the entire value chain, from exploration to the marketing of metals. Its portfolio includes gold and several metals essential for energy transition.
Present in eight African countries, including Morocco, the group employs approximately 5,000 people and continues to solidify its presence on the continent through large-scale projects.
An Operation Still Under Evaluation
At this stage, the financial details of the operation and the precise timeline for its completion have not been disclosed. The outcome will depend on the findings of the ongoing regulatory process and any observations made by concerned parties.
However, this potential acquisition illustrates Managem’s strategy to strengthen its footprint in high-value energy and mining sectors.
