Banque Populaire and Western Union Launch Instant Money Transfer Service to Morocco

The Central Popular Bank Group (BCP) and Western Union have announced the launch of a new digital solution aimed at international money transfers. This innovation, based on direct integration through application programming interfaces (APIs), allows beneficiaries in Morocco to instantly receive funds sent from abroad directly into their bank accounts, ensuring a secure transaction.
Faster and Smoother Transfers
According to a joint statement from the two partners, this new platform fully automates the transfer process by establishing a direct connection between Western Union’s systems and the Bank Popular’s digital infrastructure.
This integration significantly reduces processing times and provides Moroccans living abroad, as well as their families, with a faster, simpler, and more reliable experience, from sending funds to immediate crediting to the beneficiary’s account.
A Customer Experience-Focused Innovation
Idriss Bensmaïl, General Director of Retail Banking at BCP, notes that this project exemplifies the bank’s commitment to accelerating its digital transformation by leveraging new technologies.
He emphasizes that this technical interconnection enables the bank to offer clients a more efficient service that combines speed, security, and continuity in operations, aligning with the strategy for developing open banking services.
A Strengthened Partnership with Western Union
Meanwhile, Mohamed Tehami El Ouazzani, Regional President for Africa at Western Union, believes that this new solution solidifies the historic partnership between the two institutions.
He reminds us that customers of Bank Popular will now benefit from Western Union’s global coverage, allowing them to receive their transfers instantly while enjoying digital services that meet modern user demands and expectations.
BCP Accelerates Its Financial Innovation Strategy
With this new offering, the Central Popular Bank Group reaffirms its commitment to financial innovation and the modernization of banking services in Morocco. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at facilitating cross-border transfers, enhancing customer experiences, and supporting the digital transformation of the Moroccan financial sector.
