Anthropic Launches Claude Opus 5: A More Efficient AI Model at Half the Cost for Businesses
Anthropic has announced the launch of its new artificial intelligence model, Claude Opus 5, which is touted as more efficient in programming and reasoning tasks while reducing operational costs by approximately 50% compared to Claude Sonnet 5. This development aligns with the company’s strategy to strengthen its position in the business-focused AI solutions market.
In a press release published on Friday, Anthropic stated that Claude Opus 5 is designed for everyday use and commercial applications. The model is priced at 5 dollars per million input tokens and 25 dollars per million output tokens, making it about half the cost of Claude Sonnet 5.
Dianne Penn, the head of research products at Anthropic, explained that companies are now seeking the best balance between performance and cost. According to her, a price reduction is only meaningful if it is accompanied by a high level of quality and efficiency in task execution.
The company asserts that Claude Opus 5 outperforms Claude Sonnet 5 in several areas, including programming, reasoning, and cognitive tasks.
However, Anthropic clarified that this new model is not intended for applications requiring the highest levels of precision and security, such as cybersecurity or certain sensitive use cases. For these specific scenarios, the company continues to rely on other specialized models.
