International Hospital-University Complex Mohammed VI in Dakhla Set to Open in October 2026
The International Hospital-University Complex Mohammed VI in Dakhla is poised to reach a pivotal milestone with an opening planned for October 2026. This major project, regarded as one of the most significant investments in the healthcare sector in the southern part of the Kingdom, aims to sustainably transform the landscape of care, training, and research in the Southern Provinces.
More than just a hospital, the complex is designed as a comprehensive integrated health campus. It will feature a university hospital with 300 beds, a faculty of medicine, a biomedical engineering school, a nursing college, and a congress center with a capacity of 600 seats, intended to host scientific and medical events.
According to the project data, the facility will be able to accommodate up to 258,000 patients annually. The emergency department will include 22 dedicated beds, four intensive care units, and a transport service equipped with four ambulances, thereby enhancing the region’s capacity to handle emergencies.
The complex also incorporates a strong environmental focus, featuring a 1.2 MW photovoltaic solar power plant, which is expected to reduce energy consumption by nearly 31% and avoid the emission of around 1,356 tons of CO₂ each year.
Situated alongside the Dakhla Atlantic Port, the International Hospital-University Complex Mohammed VI aligns with the development vision for the Southern Provinces championed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. It hopes to position Dakhla as a leading regional hub for health, medical training, and research, while also boosting its appeal to countries in West Africa, particularly Mauritania, Senegal, and Niger.
With only a few weeks until its inauguration, construction is progressing rapidly to adhere to the set timetable. Once operational, the complex is expected to significantly improve access to specialized care, train future healthcare professionals, and enhance Morocco’s medical prominence on the African continent.
