Morocco-Argentina: Santa Fe Aims to Strengthen Trade Relations with the Kingdom
The Argentine province of Santa Fe is positioning itself as a strategic trade partner for Morocco, alongside Buenos Aires and Córdoba. This was emphasized by the Moroccan ambassador to Argentina, Yassir Fares, during the third edition of the Santa Fe Business Forum, held in Rosario.
Cooperation Based on Agro-Industry
Addressing economic stakeholders gathered at the forum, the Moroccan diplomat highlighted Santa Fe’s role in the trade exchange between the two countries. According to him, this cooperation primarily relies on a strong agro-industrial axis, characterized by the complementary needs of both markets.
The Argentine province significantly contributes to Morocco’s food security through its exports of grains, oils, and soybean derivatives. In return, the Kingdom supplies the Argentine agricultural sector with phosphate fertilizers, essential for improving agricultural productivity and yields.
For Yassir Fares, this complementarity forms a solid foundation for deepening economic relations between the two countries. He therefore called for diversifying trade to establish Argentina as a key economic partner for Morocco in South America.
Moroccan Infrastructure Supporting Industry
In a speech focused on infrastructures and logistics as engines of Morocco’s industrial acceleration, the ambassador also presented the main strengths of the Moroccan model.
He specifically highlighted the development of the railway network, the commissioning of Africa’s first high-speed train, as well as the growth of the Tanger Med port complex, located at the Strait of Gibraltar, one of the main hubs of international maritime trade.
The modernization of Moroccan infrastructure, which also includes airports, industrial zones, and free trade areas, has boosted several high-value-added sectors. This dynamic has enabled the Kingdom to consolidate its position as an African leader in the automotive industry.
Connecting Production Basins to Global Markets
The Moroccan ambassador also stressed the importance of effective connections between production areas and port infrastructures. This is also a concern for Argentina, which is engaged in the development and modernization of its own logistics networks.
For Morocco, the goal is to build a two-way economic cooperation. The Kingdom aims to position itself as a gateway for Argentina to Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Arab world, while Argentina could offer Morocco enhanced access to Mercosur and South American markets.
This approach thus paves the way for broader cooperation, extending beyond the agricultural sector to encompass logistics, industry, infrastructure, and trade exchanges.
