Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid at HEC Paris: Morocco, Between Roots and Global Influence

Morocco’s Path to Modernity: The Vision of King Mohammed VI
With its millennia-old history and authentic values, Morocco is confidently advancing towards modernity and progress under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This was emphasized by Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, during a conference held on Friday evening at HEC Paris, themed "Morocco in the Spotlight: Insights into Global Influence."
Addressing a large audience of students, researchers, academics, and Moroccan diaspora members, the Minister highlighted significant reform and development initiatives that have been launched in the Kingdom, thanks to a forward-thinking royal vision. According to Bensaid, these ambitious dynamics now position Morocco as an influential player on the international stage.
Bensaid praised the commitment of past generations that fought for the country’s independence and values, while underscoring the crucial role that today’s young Moroccans, especially those living abroad, play in continuing to elevate the Kingdom’s global presence.
Looking ahead to major upcoming sporting events — the Africa Cup of Nations in 2026 and the World Cup in 2030 — the Minister pointed out the significant investment opportunities that arise, particularly for Moroccans worldwide.
He particularly emphasized the strategic potential of cultural and creative industries (CCI), which Morocco intends to establish as an economic pillar and an international influence lever. These industries encompass various fields such as music, theater, cinema, visual arts, and even video games, a sector where young Moroccan talents are excelling.
A national strategy is currently being rolled out to promote the global exportation of Moroccan culture through festivals, audiovisual productions, trade fairs, and exhibitions. The development of the gaming industry is also part of this strategy, providing Moroccan youth with a platform to innovate and make their mark internationally.
The Minister also highlighted Morocco’s efforts to protect its cultural heritage against attempts at foreign appropriation, expressing his satisfaction with the active engagement of Moroccans abroad, particularly on social media, in defending their cultural heritage.
In an interactive and friendly atmosphere, Bensaid encouraged the young attendees to seize the opportunities that Morocco offers for actively contributing to its development. He also urged them to engage politically to preserve the country’s democratic gains and to participate in public affairs in the future.
