Security Governance in Africa: Agadir Hosts CIGSIDA 2026 from November 2 to 5

Agadir is set to host the second edition of the International Congress on Governance of Security, Innovation, and Development in Africa (CIGSIDA 2026) from November 2 to 5, 2026. Organized by the IAMAR Institute at the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences in Agadir, this event will bring together experts and officials from over 28 countries, coinciding with the celebrations of the Feast of Unity, Aïd Al Wahda, and the anniversary of the Green March.
Participants in this scientific gathering will include representatives from the United Nations and the African Union, with the aim of highlighting Morocco’s experience and addressing security governance challenges on the continent. Discussions will primarily focus on citizen security, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital transformation, and African cooperation mechanisms.
The opening ceremony, scheduled for November 2, is anticipated to be one of the congress’s key highlights. Notably, Daniel Prins, described in the invitation as the head of the UN’s division for security governance, is expected to speak. According to the organizers, he will officially declare Morocco as the “African champion in security governance.” This announcement is also likely to lead to discussions with international speakers regarding Morocco’s experiences, its influence, and prospects for cooperation at the African level.
Through this second edition, CIGSIDA aims to provide a space for reflection and dialogue on the evolving security challenges in Africa, while also showcasing national experiences and exploring cooperation opportunities among the continent’s stakeholders.
