Abdelghani Azzi Takes Over as Interim Head of ONSSA

Dr. Abdelghani Azzi Appointed Acting Director General of ONSSA
Dr. Abdelghani Azzi has been officially appointed as the Acting Director General of the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA). He succeeds Abdellah Janati, who has retired. Dr. Azzi will officially assume his duties starting Monday, August 10, 2026.
This appointment aligns with a commitment to continuity at the helm of this public institution, which is primarily responsible for the sanitary control of food products and the protection of consumer health. Dr. Azzi’s role will involve ensuring the continuation of ONSSA’s strategic activities and maintaining the national food safety framework.
This transition follows the retirement of Abdellah Janati, to whom ONSSA paid tribute, acknowledging his remarkable career and significant contributions to strengthening and modernizing the national food safety system.
The choice for the new Acting Director General fell to a specialist with extensive experience in veterinary medicine and public health. Dr. Abdelghani Azzi graduated at the top of his class from the Hassan II Agronomic and Veterinary Institute (IAV) in Rabat, where he earned his veterinary medicine doctorate in 1994 with honors.
He furthered his education in France, obtaining a Certificate of Advanced Veterinary Studies in Public Health from the National School of Veterinary Services in Lyon.
With over thirty years of experience in the public sector, Dr. Azzi possesses both technical and managerial expertise in veterinary public health and safety. His background positions him to ensure the continuity of ONSSA’s missions, particularly in food chain monitoring and national health protection.
This appointment marks a new chapter for ONSSA, which continues its missions amid a backdrop where food safety remains a critical issue for public health, consumer protection, and the competitiveness of the Moroccan agri-food sector.
