Asmex: Sonia Mezzour a Candidate to Succeed Hassan Sentissi

Upcoming Moroccan Exporters Confederation Election: A Look at Sonia Mezzour
As the Moroccan Confederation of Exporters (Asmex) approaches its upcoming election on June 23, several candidates are gearing up to vie for the presidency of the organization. Among them is Sonia Mezzour, the current vice-president of Asmex, who aims to leverage her extensive background in finance and investment to support the growth of Moroccan exports.
This election will mark the end of Hassan Sentissi’s leadership, who, after three consecutive terms, is unable to run again in accordance with Asmex’s statutes, paving the way for a new leadership team.
For several years, Sonia Mezzour has played an active role within the Confederation. In addition to her role as vice-president, she chairs the Financing and Insurance Commission, focusing on issues related to external trade financing, export guarantees, and improving the competitiveness of Moroccan companies in international markets.
A recognized professional in the financial sector, she currently leads OVERSEE, an investment bank licensed by the Moroccan Capital Market Authority (AMMC). Her work involves supporting investment and financing projects both in Morocco and abroad, particularly in Europe and Africa.
Sonia Mezzour graduated from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and began her career in investment banking before furthering her education with an executive program at Harvard Business School. She has also engaged in research projects affiliated with Harvard Medical School.
In Morocco, she has held various roles in the public sector. Notably, she served as an advisor at the Ministry of Energy, Mines, Water, and Environment, and later as the Secretary-General of the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency (AMEE), where she contributed to the implementation of projects related to energy transition and sustainable development.
Her experience extends beyond national borders. She represented Morocco at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in Geneva and was elected vice-president of the International Bureau of Public-Private Partnership Specialists, becoming the only African representative at this level of responsibility.
An expert in energy issues, Sonia Mezzour frequently addresses topics related to renewable energy, energy efficiency, green hydrogen, and the decarbonization of industry—challenges of increasing importance for Moroccan exporters, especially in light of new environmental standards imposed by several trade partners.
Fluent in multiple languages, including Arabic, French, English, Spanish, and German, she embraces a vision centered on international openness, innovation, and the modernization of businesses.
The vote on June 23 will allow Asmex members to choose their next president. Sonia Mezzour hopes to persuade voters that her national and international experience will be an asset in ushering in a new phase of growth for Moroccan exports.
