The Rabat first instance court issued its ruling on Tuesday in the case involving YouTuber Mohammed Reda Taoujni and Prince Moulay Hicham. The case centers on defamation allegations linked to content published on a YouTube channel.

A Case Deliberated in April
This verdict comes after the case was deliberated during the hearing on Tuesday, April 21, before the final decision was rendered in the session on Tuesday.
The YouTuber was prosecuted for defamation stemming from comments made on his channel, deemed damaging to the honor and reputation of the plaintiff.
Plaintiff’s Defense Arguments
Prince Moulay Hicham’s attorney, Me Abdelrahim Jamai, emphasized the importance of freedom of expression while highlighting its legal limitations.
He asserted that freedom of opinion ends when it infringes upon the dignity and honor of individuals, clarifying that resorting to derogatory comments does not constitute journalism.
According to him, his client approached the judiciary as a citizen who believed he was a victim of defamation, stating he was ready to consider any evidence presented by the opposing party.
A Debate Between Free Speech and Respect for Dignity
This case reignites the debate around the boundary between freedom of expression and individual reputation protection, especially in the context of digital platforms and social media.
Online content can now be subject to legal action when deemed defamatory or damaging to the honor of the individuals involved.
The conviction of Mohammed Reda Taoujni by the Rabat court exemplifies the legal framework surrounding content published on digital platforms. It also underscores the growing sensitivity of reputation-related disputes in the age of social media.
