Ebola: The United Arab Emirates Strengthens Health Measures at Borders

UAE Implements Additional Precautionary Measures Against Ebola Virus

In line with their public health prevention strategy, the authorities of the United Arab Emirates have decided to implement additional precautionary measures to limit the risks associated with the spread of the Ebola virus.

This decision was jointly announced by the National Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Management Authority and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security.

Visa Suspension for Three High-Risk African Countries

Effective Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 1:00 PM, UAE authorities will suspend the issuance of all new visas for nationals from three countries deemed at risk:

  • The Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Uganda
  • South Sudan

This measure particularly affects visitor visas and may be extended depending on the evolution of the public health situation. However, cargo flights between the UAE and these three countries will continue as normal.

Entry Restrictions for Affected Travelers

Additionally, authorities have announced a temporary ban on entering the UAE for travelers arriving directly or indirectly from the affected countries.

This restriction also applies to passengers transiting through one or more countries before their arrival in the UAE. However, there is an exception for individuals who have spent more than 21 days outside of these countries prior to their arrival in the Emirates.

International transit operations via UAE airports will remain unaffected.

Ongoing Surveillance of Public Health Situation

UAE authorities have stated they will continue to monitor the evolution of the Ebola outbreak in coordination with international organizations and local health partners.

They also indicated that new measures may be adopted should the virus spread to other countries, in accordance with risk assessments and prevailing health protocols.

Preserving National Public Health Security

Through these decisions, the United Arab Emirates aims to enhance its preparedness and protect public health while maintaining essential economic activities, particularly the transport of goods.

This preventive approach is part of a broader strategy to anticipate international health risks and ensure the safety of both travelers and residents.
