Geely Sets World Record with a Fuel Consumption of 2.2 L/100 km in Plug-in Hybrid

The Chinese automobile manufacturer Geely has made a significant breakthrough in energy efficiency by announcing a record consumption of just 2.2 liters per 100 kilometers for its plug-in hybrid system. This performance has been officially validated by the Guinness World Records, repositioning the company among the global leaders in automotive technology.

A Next-Generation Hybrid Technology

This achievement is made possible by the i-HEV technology, a hybrid system entirely developed in-house by Geely Auto. It utilizes a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine integrated into the i-CMA modular platform, intelligently combining thermal and electric propulsion.

The key innovation lies in the use of artificial intelligence through the AI Cloud Power system, which analyzes driving conditions in real-time (temperature, humidity, altitude) to continuously optimize energy distribution.

AI-Driven Energy Management

Thanks to this technology, the vehicle can automatically switch between electric, thermal, or hybrid mode based on requirements, while optimizing overall consumption.

According to the manufacturer, this system improves energy efficiency by over 10% compared to a traditional hybrid engine. The electric motor generates up to 230 kW (310 horsepower), delivering dynamic performance while maintaining quiet operation in electric mode.

Outstanding Thermal Efficiency in the Industry

The engine boasts a thermal efficiency of 48.41%, significantly surpassing current automotive industry standards, which usually range between 40% and 43%.

This performance is achieved through continuous optimization of combustion and the system’s ability to decouple thermal and electric drive units, allowing them to operate within their optimal efficiency zones.

Smart Battery and Predictive Maintenance

The system is also equipped with an advanced battery featuring liquid cooling and complying with the IP68 standard, ensuring resilience and reliability in extreme conditions.

Moreover, the integrated artificial intelligence monitors the battery’s condition and detects over 50 types of potential failures, facilitating predictive maintenance and reducing the risk of breakdowns.

A Global Electrification Strategy

For Geely, this innovation is part of a broader strategy for energy diversification and expansion into international markets.

The manufacturer, already present in over 80 countries with more than 7 million vehicles in circulation, aims to establish this hybrid technology as a new industry standard in the context of the automotive sector’s accelerated energy transition.
