Mohammed V Airport: 480 Million Dirhams for the New Terminal

The National Airports Office (ONDA) is continuing preparations for the future terminal of Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca by launching three public contracts, which together represent a projected budget of approximately 480 million dirhams. These contracts pertain to boarding equipment, road access development, and quality control of the construction work. They are part of a large-scale modernization program for Morocco’s primary airport platform.

336 Million Dirhams for Boarding Equipment

The largest contract is focused on the supply, installation, and commissioning of equipment for the boarding areas of the future terminal. Its projected cost amounts to 336 million dirhams for the fixed tranche.

The contract includes the installation of 47 telescopic boarding bridges that enable passengers to access the aircraft directly, including two designed for the upper deck of the Airbus A380. It also encompasses 60 electrical converters and 61 guidance systems to facilitate the positioning of aircraft at their parking spots.

Additionally, a conditional tranche is planned to ensure the maintenance of the equipment, estimated to cost 26.298 million dirhams annually, including taxes, over a potential period of up to five years. This potential annual expenditure is not included in the overall budget of 480 million dirhams.

A 113 Million Dirham Interchange to Improve Access

The second contract pertains to the construction of a road interchange designed to connect the future airport complex to the provincial road RP 3038. The projected cost of this infrastructure is 113.05 million dirhams, including taxes.

The work aims to improve access to the new terminal and organize traffic flow around the airport. The expected completion time is 14 months from the issuance of the service order to commence construction.

Simultaneously, ONDA has allocated a budget of 30 million dirhams for a quality control and oversight mission for the construction work. This service will ensure the compliance of the work with the technical requirements and monitor the construction quality.

A Megaproject Estimated at 15 Billion Dirhams

These three contracts are part of the project to construct the new terminal area of Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport, which has a total estimated cost of nearly 15 billion dirhams, excluding taxes.

Designed by the British agency RSHP, the future terminal is expected to cover an area of approximately 600,000 square meters and adopt an H-shaped architecture, centered around a main building and two piers. Its initial capacity is planned to accommodate 20 million passengers annually, with the potential for expansion to 30 million.

The program also includes the construction of a new 3,700-meter parallel runway, taxiways for aircraft, and additional parking areas. A control tower approximately 42 meters high is also among the planned infrastructures.

The modernization will further improve road access, parking facilities, and connectivity with the future high-speed rail line. The project also includes technical buildings, new electrical installations, a power plant, and photovoltaic equipment.

Casablanca Strengthens Its Airport Capacity

With this program, ONDA continues the transformation of Mohammed V Airport to accommodate the increasing air traffic and enhance Casablanca’s reception capacities.

The stakes go beyond merely constructing a new terminal. The boarding equipment, road accesses, and technical infrastructures must function in a coordinated manner to ensure the future terminal’s efficiency and facilitate travelers’ movements.

ONDA has also relaunched a contract estimated at 144 million dirhams for engineering and technical assistance services related to the project. All these investments are part of a broader initiative to modernize Morocco’s airport infrastructure and strengthen Casablanca’s position in international air connectivity.
