Sebou: A Study to Strengthen Water Resource Interconnection

The Sebou Hydraulic Basin Agency (ABHS) is preparing to launch a feasibility and opportunity study focused on several interconnection projects for water resources within the basin. The aim is to enhance the mobilization of water resources and improve their integrated management in light of increasing pressure on water availability and the impacts of climate change.

Multiple Projects Related to Interconnection

The study will specifically analyze the interconnection project between the Sahla and Bouhouda dams. It will also explore connectivity options between the sub-basin watersheds of Ouergha, Lben, and Inaouen, with the goal of increasing the water supply directed towards the Idriss I dam.

For the ABHS, optimizing the operation and management of hydraulic structures represents a crucial lever for improving the mobilization of available resources and enhancing water security within the Sebou basin.

Modeling Different Hydraulic Scenarios

Initially, the study will assess the water resources that can potentially be mobilized along with the needs they must fulfill. It will also facilitate the modeling of the hydraulic functionality of the relevant systems to anticipate their behavior under various configurations.

Several interconnection scenarios will be analyzed and simulated in order to identify solutions that optimize the flow and mobilization of water resources between different structures and sub-basins.

Technical, Economic, and Environmental Assessment

Beyond the hydraulic dimension, the study must identify the most relevant solutions from technical, economic, and environmental standpoints. This approach is intended to enable a comparison of different options before embarking on any potential subsequent phases of execution.

The work will also include an estimation of the investment and operational costs associated with the selected solutions. It will finally define the programs for topographic and geotechnical investigations necessary for the continuation of studies and the preparation of future projects.

Through this initiative, the ABHS aims to gain a clearer vision of the interconnection possibilities within the Sebou basin and the conditions required for their implementation, in a context where the sustainable security of water resources has become a strategic challenge.
