Sidi Ifni: The New Spanish Consul in Agadir Welcomed by Rachid El Bettah

Rachid El Bettah Meets with New Spanish Consul General in Sidi Ifni
Rachid El Bettah, the president of the Sidi Ifni municipal council and a member of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), welcomed Miriam de Corral Sánchez-Cabezudo, the newly appointed Consul General of Spain in Agadir, during a courtesy and working visit to the municipal headquarters.
This meeting facilitated a discussion on strengthening cooperation and partnership between the two parties, alongside exploring ways to enhance exchanges related to local development issues and the promotion of Sidi Ifni’s historical and cultural heritage, in line with the historical and cultural ties between Morocco and Spain.
During this occasion, Rachid El Bettah congratulated the Consul General on her new position, wishing her great success in her new responsibilities. He also reiterated the council’s commitment to continuing efforts to foster partnerships in areas of mutual interest.
Among the proposals presented during the meeting was the project to rehabilitate the historic building known as "La Bactoria." Rachid El Bettah proposed transforming it into a specialized institute for the teaching of languages and their literatures.
The initiative aims to reintegrate this building into the cultural and social life of the city, emphasizing its historical and architectural significance while repurposing it to serve the local community.
The project also seeks to enhance young people’s access to foreign language learning, broaden their training prospects, and improve their professional opportunities. Furthermore, it could play a vital role in strengthening cultural exchanges between Morocco and Spain.
For her part, Miriam de Corral Sánchez-Cabezudo expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and showed interest in the proposal. She highlighted the consulate’s willingness to explore the possibilities of implementing cultural and development initiatives in a spirit of cooperation that aligns with shared interests.
This meeting is part of the Sidi Ifni municipal council’s open approach towards its external environment and reflects its commitment to leveraging the historical and cultural heritage of the city as a catalyst for local development, particularly through partnerships in training, culture, and tourism.
