SRM Drâa-Tafilalet: 11 MDH for the Modernization of the Liquid Wastewater Network

Celebrating the 27th Anniversary of His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s Accession to the Throne, the province of Ouarzazate has launched two major projects aimed at modernizing the wastewater treatment network for the city and Greater Ouarzazate.

The official ceremony, held on July 24, 2026, was presided over by the Governor of Ouarzazate, alongside the Provincial Director of the Regional Multi-Services Company Drâa-Tafilalet (SRM Drâa-Tafilalet). Several elected officials, representatives of deconcentrated services, local authorities, and security services also participated in this event.

An Investment of 11 Million Dirhams

The two projects represent a total investment of 11 million dirhams, financed as part of the National Program for Collective Wastewater Treatment and Reuse of Treated Wastewater (PNAM).

The first project involves the rehabilitation of the main wastewater collector located on the west bank of the city of Ouarzazate. The second project plans for the renovation of manholes, covers, and drains within the wastewater network, as well as structures for stormwater management throughout Greater Ouarzazate.

More Efficient and Environmentally Friendly Infrastructure

These works primarily aim to enhance the performance of the network by reducing wastewater leaks resulting from aging pipes.

The modernization of these facilities will help limit pollution risks, preserve natural environments, and reduce unpleasant odors associated with infiltration. The goal is also to ensure greater durability of wastewater infrastructure and a more effective management of wastewater.

Reducing Flood Risks and Enhancing Safety

The program also includes the upgrade of damaged manholes and covers to enhance the safety of pedestrians and motorists.

Additionally, interventions on stormwater management structures will improve the flow of rainwater, limit water accumulation in urban areas, and reduce flooding risks during intense weather events.

These improvements will bolster the city’s resilience against climate change effects while enhancing mobility and comfort for residents.
