Barcelona Signs Rashford and Joan Garcia Despite Financial Constraints

FC Barcelona officially registered its two main summer signings with La Liga this Saturday: Catalan goalkeeper Joan Garcia and English forward Marcus Rashford.

At 24 years old, Joan Garcia joins from Espanyol for a fee of €25 million. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford joins Barça on a loan deal from Manchester United, which includes an option to buy. Both players are now, at least temporarily, on the registered player list for La Liga, allowing them to participate in the opening match of the season against Mallorca, scheduled for this Saturday at 7:30 PM.

Despite a challenging financial context linked to the renovation works at Camp Nou, the Catalan club has skillfully maneuvered to meet financial fair play requirements. Key operations that enabled these registrations include:

• The transfer of Iñigo Martínez to Saudi club Al-Nassr,

• The permanent sale of Francisco Trincão’s rights to Sporting Portugal,

• The contract extension of Jules Koundé until 2030, a move that allowed for the amortization of his salary.

Barcelona was also able to take advantage of the temporary unavailability of Marc-André ter Stegen, who recently underwent back surgery, to integrate Joan Garcia into the official squad.

However, some players are still awaiting their administrative validation, including:

• Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny,

• Defenders Gerard Martín and Héctor Fort,

• Defensive midfielder Marc Bernal,

• And Roony Bardghji, a Swedish talent regarded as one of the top signings of the transfer window.
