International Institute for Management Development Releases Global ‘Smart Cities’ Ranking

The International Institute for Management Development (IMD) has recently unveiled its latest global ranking of ‘Smart Cities,’ highlighting the performance of urban centers in terms of smart city intelligence. Zurich (Switzerland) maintains its top position, followed by Oslo (Norway), Geneva (Switzerland), Dubai (UAE), and Abu Dhabi (UAE), which dominate the rankings.

In the Maghreb region, Rabat has advanced three places, now holding the 123rd position, demonstrating a notable improvement in its infrastructure and urban management. Conversely, Algiers and Tunis have dropped four and five places, respectively, landing in 128th and 142nd positions worldwide.

The IMD ‘Smart Cities’ ranking assesses cities based on their performance in urban intelligence, considering various aspects such as employment, housing, environment, and inclusivity. The methodology relies on residents’ perceptions of the infrastructure and technologies available in their cities, with evaluations focusing on five key areas: health and safety, mobility, activities, opportunities, and governance.

IMD, a prestigious institution based in Lausanne, Switzerland, has published this ranking annually since 2019 in partnership with the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), thereby contributing to the promotion of best practices for smart cities on a global scale.
