Meteorological Alert: Snowfall and Heavy Rain Forecast in Morocco

The General Directorate of Meteorology has announced significant snowfall, heavy rainfall—including thunderstorms—and strong wind gusts expected from this Wednesday until the following Saturday across various regions of the Kingdom, as part of an “orange” vigilance alert.

Abundant Snowfall in the Atlas and Rif Mountains

Regions at altitudes above 1,600 meters are forecasted to receive snowfall ranging from 15 to 30 cm in the provinces of Taza, Guercif, Sefrou, Boulemane, and Midelt. In Ifrane and Azilal, snowfall may reach between 10 and 15 cm, while it will vary from 5 to 10 cm in Al Hoceima, Béni Mellal, Taroudant, El Haouz, Tinghir, and Ouarzazate. This snowfall is expected from Wednesday at 1 PM until Thursday at the same hour.

Heavy and Thunderous Rain in the North and Center

Heavy rains, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms (30 to 50 mm), are anticipated in the provinces of Larache, Kénitra, Sidi Kacem, Al Hoceima, Tétouan, M’diq-Fnideq, Chefchaouen, Fahs-Anjra, Tanger-Asilah, Ouezzane, and Taounate, from Wednesday at 1 PM until Thursday at 9 AM. This situation will also affect Sefrou, Ifrane, Taza, Azilal, Béni Mellal, Khénifra, and Midelt at later times.

Peak Rainfall Expected Between Friday and Saturday

Some regions may record rainfall totals ranging from 70 to 100 mm, particularly in Tanger-Asilah, Tétouan, Larache, Kénitra, Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, Ouezzane, Fahs-Anjra, Taounate, Sefrou, Moulay Yacoub, Meknès, Ifrane, Khénifra, Midelt, Béni Mellal, and Azilal. These episodes are projected from Friday night to Saturday evening.

Wind Gusts Reaching Up to 90 km/h

Strong winds, ranging from 75 to 90 km/h, are expected in several provinces, including Kénitra, Larache, Tétouan, Al Hoceima, Taza, Driouch, Guercif, Jerada, Taourirt, Boulemane, Sefrou, Berkane, Oujda, Nador, Figuig, Midelt, Fès, El Hajeb, Ifrane, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Tata, Taroudant, Sidi Ifni, and Guelmim, from Wednesday at 1 PM until Thursday at the same time.

Call for Vigilance

The General Directorate of Meteorology urges citizens, especially motorists and residents of mountainous areas, to exercise caution and stay informed through official weather bulletins to avoid any dangers associated with these severe weather conditions.
