The Government Council Approves Two Draft Decrees Regarding the Financing of Election Campaigns

The Government Council, which convened on Thursday, April 2, 2026, has approved two draft decrees concerning the State’s contribution to the financing of electoral campaigns led by political parties participating in the general elections for the members of the House of Representatives.
Revision of the Current Legal Framework
Following the meeting, the Minister Delegate for Relations with Parliament and Government Spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas, clarified that the first document pertains to draft decree No. 2.26.300, which amends decree No. 2.16.666 dated August 10, 2016, regarding the State’s contribution to financing electoral campaigns.
The second draft, No. 2.26.301, addresses the modification and supplementation of decree No. 2.16.667, which sets the deadlines and methods for utilizing this public contribution.
Towards Greater Transparency and Oversight
These new texts are part of an initiative aimed at enhancing transparency in the financing of electoral campaigns and regulating the use of public funds granted to political parties.
They also reflect the authorities’ commitment to modernizing the regulatory framework for elections, ensuring equal opportunities among various political actors, and reinforcing confidence in the democratic process.
