Cybersecurity: Morocco Under Pressure Amid Intensifying Attacks
The increase in cyberattacks presents Morocco with an unprecedented challenge: safeguarding a rapidly expanding digital domain while maintaining its sovereignty. A Massive and Constant Threat
In recent years, cyberattacks have escalated dramatically. The incident involving the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), which resulted in the leakage of data belonging to millions of insured individuals, serves as a stark reminder of existing vulnerabilities. Since then, this trend has markedly worsened.
By 2025, the General Directorate of Information System Security (DGSSI) reported 879 major cyberattacks, over a hundred of which required direct intervention. Simultaneously, more than 20 million intrusion attempts were detected within just six months, highlighting a persistent pressure on national systems.
A Country Under Increasing Targeting
Beyond the sheer volume, the nature of the attacks is evolving. Morocco is increasingly recognized as one of the most targeted countries in Africa when it comes to state-sponsored cyberattacks. This geopolitical dimension reflects the Kingdom’s growing strategic importance in regional economic and digital exchanges.
Critical infrastructures, public institutions, and large corporations have become prime targets, all set against a backdrop of escalating tensions in cyberspace.

In the face of these risks, cybersecurity emerges as a cornerstone of national sovereignty. Morocco’s strategy for 2030 aims to build a resilient digital ecosystem capable of preventing, detecting, and effectively responding to threats.
The focus is on protecting sensitive infrastructures, enhancing governance, and developing local skills. The objective is clear: to reduce technological dependency and bolster the country’s autonomy in an inherently strategic field.
