The second edition of the Economic Forum for Moroccans Abroad (MDM) opened on Friday in Marrakech, under the theme “MDM Investment and Innovation”. The event has gathered public decision-makers, investors, entrepreneurs, and experts from various backgrounds.

This gathering serves as a strategic platform aimed at highlighting the economic, human, and entrepreneurial potential of the Moroccan diaspora, particularly as their role in national development becomes increasingly pivotal.

A Diaspora at the Heart of Morocco’s Economic Transformation

The discussions at this edition shed light on the growing contribution of Moroccans abroad to the national economy. Their involvement is now part of a productive investment logic focused on value creation, leveraging their international experiences, skills, and culture of innovation.

During the forum’s opening, the Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, Karim Zidane, emphasized the strategic importance of Moroccans abroad in the economic and social development of the Kingdom.

He reminded attendees that, following the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, efforts are underway to place the diaspora at the heart of the national development project. This includes facilitating investments, mobilizing talents, and strengthening ties between the MDM and their country of origin.

An Engine of Innovation and Transformation for the Kingdom

Strengthened Institutional Support for the Diaspora

Ismail Lamghari, the Secretary General of the Department of Moroccans Residing Abroad, noted that this forum serves as an essential meeting point for Moroccan talent abroad.

He highlighted the programs put in place to support the diaspora, both in their countries of residence and in Morocco, notably through initiatives such as the summer university for young Moroccans abroad, which fosters exchanges with institutional actors, researchers, and public officials.

National Dynamics Gaining Momentum

Ismail Lamghari also emphasized that Morocco is engaged in a large-scale development process, marked by numerous strategic projects, particularly in anticipation of the 2030 World Cup.

He urged Moroccans abroad to become more involved in this national dynamic by actively contributing to investment projects and development initiatives.

Structuring Economic and Entrepreneurial Potential

Amine Saad, President of the Moroccan Diaspora Trophies Foundation, highlighted the central theme of this edition, focused on investment and innovation.

He stressed that the goal is to translate the significant potential of Moroccans abroad into concrete projects, productive investments, and innovative initiatives that serve the Kingdom’s development.

He also reminded everyone that Moroccans abroad occupy key positions in strategic sectors such as technology, finance, research, entrepreneurship, and future industries.

Towards Strengthening Synergies Between the Diaspora and Morocco

Amine Saad emphasized the need to strengthen the bridges between Moroccan talents abroad and the opportunities offered by Morocco. The objective is to stimulate investment, encourage innovation, and enhance cooperation between public and private actors.

Thematic Panels and Recognition of Talent

The forum’s activities will revolve around three main panels focusing on the strategic impact of Moroccans abroad in productive investment and innovation, mechanisms for mobilizing their savings through crowdfunding and bank financing, and their role in regional development.

The event will conclude with the presentation of the Moroccan Entrepreneurs Awards, recognizing entrepreneurial initiatives created in Morocco by members of the diaspora or the expansion of their international businesses within the national territory.
