Moroccan Bank Wins Best Bank in North Africa at African Banker Awards 2026

The Moroccan bank Bank Of Africa has been honored with the title of Best Bank in North Africa during the 20th edition of the African Banker Awards 2026, held on Wednesday in Brazzaville, alongside the Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank.

This award recognizes the impressive performance and regional positioning of the Moroccan banking group in a context marked by the transformation of the African financial sector and a surge in investments across the continent.

Several African Banks Recognized

The regional awards also honored various African institutions, including Zanaco for Southern Africa, CRDB Bank for Eastern Africa, Trust Merchant Bank for Central Africa, and Ghana Commercial Bank for Western Africa.

The title of African Bank of the Year was awarded to Ecobank, which operates in 35 countries across the continent.

Individual and Financial Honors

Among individual awards, Zambian Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane received the Minister of Finance of the Year award, while the governor of the Central Bank of Congo, André Wameso, was named Central Bank Governor of the Year.

The award for African Banker of the Year went to Serge Ekué, President of the West African Development Bank.

Innovation and Sustainable Finance Highlighted

The organizers also recognized Afreximbank as Development Financial Institution of the Year, and the Nigerian Bank of Industry was awarded in the Sustainable Bank category.

The Fintech of the Year award went to Ziidi Trader, while Rawbank received the AFAWA trophy dedicated to women’s financial inclusion.

These awards, organized annually by African Banker and IC Events, celebrate those who have contributed to the development of the African financial sector.
